Question by .: why does it take longer to travel to Lake Tahoe than Reno from San Francisco?
I just checked Mapquest and Lake Tahoe takes about an hour longer to get to than going to Reno and they’re both about the same distance away from San Francisco.

Depends on what part of Tahoe you’re going to. If you’;re going to North Lake Tahoe, it takes a little shorter than Reno, but the reason why it’s fast to go to Reno is that you’re travelling on a najor interstate highway the whole way – Route 80. To get to tahoe, you leave Route 80 and take some pretty small and windy roads to get to south lake tahoe.
